Victor Robles Back in Action as Mariners Designate Dylan Moore for Assignment
In a significant move, the Seattle Mariners activated outfielder Victor Robles from the 60-day injured list. It is remarkable to note that Robles, despite facing a 10-game suspension, is eligible to play while he appeals against the ban. As a consequence of this roster change, utilityman Dylan Moore, infamous for his fluctuating performance, was designated for assignment.
Robles, 28, suffered a dislocated left shoulder during a heated game against San Francisco where the Mariners bore a narrow 5-4 loss. The incident involved Robles making a leaping catch on April 6 that led to the injury. Upon his return, he is anticipated to join the lineup for Seattle’s game against the Athletics on the right field.
Adjustments on the active roster were necessary to make space for Robles. Dylan Moore, who had been batting a mere .193 with nine home runs, 19 RBIs and 12 steals across 88 games this season, was subsequently designated for assignment by Seattle. Moore, the longest-tenured player of the organization since 2019 at 33, had undoubtedly seen better days on the field.
Further to this development, it must be noted that Robles was on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma when he was slapped with a ban and fine by Major League Baseball. The reason for this punishment revolved around Robles’ conduct during the third inning of a game against Las Vegas the previous weekend. Robles, nearly hit by an inside pitch from Las Vegas’ Joey Estes, had a violent reaction to the event. Moments after the incident, he picked up his bat and threw it in Estes’ direction, which led to his immediate ejection by home plate umpire Joe McCarthy.
The background to this tension can be traced to Robles being hit by a pitch three times in his previous four games with Tacoma. One of these pitches was thrown by Estes. Robles’ subsequent behavior included steps towards the mound while yelling at the pitcher, but thankfully he was restrained by McCarthy and his Tacoma teammates.
In the aftermath of the incident, Robles offered an apology. He acknowledged letting his frustration get the better of him, adding that it had a negative impact on the game and the hard-earned respect from his team and fans. Robles admitted that the combination of a long rehab, being away from the game for most of the season and the recent passing of his mother had been incredibly challenging.
He wrote in an Instagram story, “I want to take a moment to sincerely apologize for my recent reaction on the field. I understand how that may have affected not just the game, but the energy and respect we all work so hard to maintain. That’s not an excuse, but some context I feel you deserve to understand where I’m coming from.”
Before the unfortunate injury, Robles was performing promisingly, batting .273 with three RBIs and three stolen bases in 10 games with Seattle. As he returns to the field amid the brewing controversy, fans and teammates alike will be eager to witness how Robles navigates his journey ahead.
