Ticketmaster Expands to Colombia with the Acquisition of La Tiquetera
With the acquisition of Medellín-based ticketing platform La Tiquetera, Ticketmaster, a leading global ticketing company, has planted its flag in Colombia. The platform has been rebranded as Ticketmaster Colombia, marking a significant expansion in the company’s operations in Latin America. This venture adds Colombia as the sixth Latin American operating base for the global giant, alongside existing businesses in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Chile, and Peru.
Adam Newsam, Ticketmaster’s Executive Vice President for Latin America, described the move as a “key step in our expansion”, solidifying the company’s leadership with a market-adapted approach. He emphasised that the company is investing in infrastructure, innovation, and local talent to serve fans, artists, venues, and promoters. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it was framed as an integration of La Tiquetera’s local relationships with Ticketmaster’s global digital ticketing, marketing, and data security tools.
This synergy not only expands Ticketmaster’s reach and strengthens its offerings for national and regional promoters, but also enhances the fan experience by ensuring a more efficient, secure, and innovative service. La Tiquetera’s roster of clients comprises major festivals and arenas, which are part of Colombia’s rapidly growing live entertainment sector. The sector has posted a 10.6% year-over-year growth and has more than doubled its contribution to the national GDP over the past decade, according to Bancolombia.
Local music superstars such as Shakira and Karol G have significantly contributed to this momentum, along with a surge in international promoters touring in major Colombian cities like Bogotá, Medellín, and Cali. Ticketmaster’s entry into Colombia adds another dimension to Live Nation’s broader push into the region. Last year, the parent company purchased a majority stake in Bogotá-based Páramo Presenta, producer of the Estéreo Picnic and Baum festivals and recently took over operations of Cali’s Arena Cañaveralejo through Ocesa and Grupo Páramo.
Furthermore, Live Nation has increased its ownership stake in OCESA, the Mexican concert promoter it took a controlling share of in 2021. Colombia stands to gain from Ticketmaster’s entry as it brings with it world-class infrastructure that will elevate the standards of the entertainment industry, according to Andrés Fierro, director of the newly minted Ticketmaster Colombia.
The platform will handle everything from presales to verified fan resale, providing promoters with access to the same data dashboards used at major arenas across North America and Europe. The company now processes hundreds of millions of tickets a year in more than 35 countries, and executives have hinted at further expansions in Latin America. “This is about raising the bar for live events across the region,” Newsam said, indicating a promising future for the entertainment industry in the region.
