The Anticipation Builds: ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Final – India vs New Zealand
The countdown to the final match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has begun. In an electrifying turn of events, two top-tier teams, India and New Zealand, have emerged from the group stage victories and semi-finals to clash in the most anticipated match of the year. The final face-off is set to take place in the majestic Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, 9 March, starting at 09:00 GMT.
Both teams have shown exceptional prowess in their preceding matches. India, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, showcased its dominance by defeating a formidable opponent, Australia, in the semi-finals. On the other hand, New Zealand, the dark horse of the tournament, triumphed against South Africa, reinforcing their reputation as a strong contender in international cricket.
India and New Zealand’s journey in this tournament has been nothing short of a thrilling roller-coaster ride. They started their campaign together in Group A and have now landed together in the final. Their performances have been a testament to their tenacity, skill, and unyielding team spirit.
The buzz surrounding the final is palpable, and for fans unable to make it to the Dubai International Stadium, numerous live-streaming platforms, including the new Jio Hotstar app, offer comprehensive coverage of the match. The live cricket streaming service ensures that fans can catch every moment of the action on their smartphones, tablets, laptops, or smart TVs.
The match is expected to be a nail-biter and, as is the tradition for knockout games, if the weather plays foul on the day of the final, there is a reserve day set for Monday, 10 March. With a minimum of 25 overs per side needed to constitute a match, the International Cricket Council has ensured that “every effort will be made” to complete the match on the scheduled day.
As the teams gear up for the final showdown, it’s worth reflecting on the tournament’s previous winners. The past eight editions have seen a variety of champions, from South Africa in 1998 to Pakistan in 2017. This year, will India add another feather to its cap, or will New Zealand etch its name once again on the trophy after its victory in 2000?
For those eager to follow the details and commentary of the final, the BBC has got it covered. There will be ball-by-ball commentary of the final on the BBC Sport website and app as well as on BBC Sounds and BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra. Members of the Test Match Special team, including Jonathan Agnew, Vic Marks, and Alex Hartley, will be on hand to provide their expert insights and analyses.
As the suspense continues to build, this final is not just a match; it’s a battle of talents, a display of strategic prowess, and an ultimate test of nerves. As India and New Zealand prepare to bring their A-game, the world holds its breath and waits in anticipation.
