Philadelphia Unveils Official FIFA World Cup Poster at Flower Show

Philadelphia made headlines recently by becoming the first host city to reveal its poster design for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026. The grand unveiling took place on March 5, at the city’s iconic Flower Show event. This noteworthy moment symbolized Philadelphia’s commitment and excitement as one of the 16 host cities for the world-renowned soccer tournament.

The official host city poster was revealed through an eye-catching floral interpretation at the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s flower show housed in the Pennsylvania Convention Center. This unique presentation method was fitting given the setting and added a touch of local flavor to the global event.

This is a significant departure from previous World Cup tournaments. Since the inception of the FIFA World Cup in 1930, FIFA has always designed an official poster for each tournament. For the first time, the 2026 World Cup will feature unique posters for each of the 16 host cities across Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Philadelphia’s poster unveiling marks the beginning of this innovative approach.

The creation of the poster was not a solitary affair. According to Meg Kane, CEO of Philadelphia Soccer 2026, the non-profit organization serving as the operational Host Committee charged with planning and executing the World Cup, they ran a statewide design contest. They received over 400 submissions and granted FIFA the opportunity to select the winner.

The winning design hailed from none other than Nick McClintock of Pittsburgh. His design encapsulated the spirit and energy of live events, a quality he deeply admires. His artwork, brimming with motion and meaning, was celebrated in a unique way at the Flower Show. The design was brought to life with a stunning floral interpretation, thanks to Valley Forge Flowers, a family-owned business for the last 50 years.

Kane expressed that McClintock’s design captured precisely what they hoped for the FIFA World Cup 2026. The poster art tells a compelling story of Pennsylvania values, including tolerance, freedom, and progress. The city is proud to showcase these values to the world.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 is set to be the largest competition ever hosted by FIFA. Philadelphia will host five Group Stage matches and a Round of 16 match. These matches schedule includes specific dates: June 14, June 19, June 22, June 25, June 27, and the United States semiquincentennial, July 4, 2026.

The posters for each host city are expected to be available for public sale later this year. Meanwhile, the floral interpretation of Philadelphia’s poster design will remain on display at the Flower Show until March 9, 2025.

This move by Philadelphia heralds a new era for FIFA and the World Cup. The inclusion of unique host city posters adds a personal touch from each city and allows them to showcase their unique identity. It is indeed a milestone in FIFA’s history and a testament to the hosts’ creativity and spirit.
