Jamie Lee Curtis Remembers Princess Diana on 28th Death Anniversary
Jamie Lee Curtis, well-known Hollywood actress, recently took some time to reflect on the impactful life of the late Princess Diana, often referred to as the ‘People’s Princess’. Curtis emphasized the “mindful” and “loving” life that the Princess of Wales led before her tragic passing.
Sharing a touching tribute on Instagram, Curtis reminisced about a personal interaction she had with Diana just a few months before her death. The ‘Halloween’ star praised the late member of the British royal family, acknowledging her courage in leaving her marriage to King Charles III, and her overall compassionate demeanor.
The pillar of her tribute was a photograph of Princess Diana extending her arms towards her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. Curtis recollected how she almost met Diana on the sets of “A Fish Called Wanda, Fierce Creatures.” During a break from shooting, Curtis had returned to her dressing room in a golf cart when she was informed of Diana’s arrival with her sons.
Despite her attempts to meet the princess, Curtis was late and Diana had already started walking away. As a way of reconciling her missed opportunity, Curtis sent a letter to Princess Diana expressing her admiration for her. The princess responded, expressing her anticipation to meet Curtis soon. Tragically, Diana passed away just two months later.
In her Instagram post, Curtis mentioned how she turned off the television when she heard the news of Diana’s death. She picked up a book on insight meditation, which highlights how people who led mindful lives often asked themselves if they led a wise and loving life at the time of their demise.
Curtis sees Princess Diana as a woman who lived wisely. She admired how Diana severed ties with her “sham contract” of a marriage and displayed courage and compassion by openly discussing her personal struggles and providing comfort to a young man with HIV/AIDS. She also admired Diana’s courage in walking through a minefield. Diana’s love for her sons was, in Curtis’s view, unparalleled by any royal before her.
Princess Diana left this world on August 31, 1997, in a car accident in Paris. The princess went to great lengths for self-protection, even taking shooting lessons. The late royal knew that her status made her a target for potential threats, thus she educated herself on ways to escape kidnappings or terrorist attacks and learned how to handle a gun.
Before embarking on the fatal trip to Paris, Diana had an interaction with her personal trainer, Jenni Rivett. While Diana seemed excited to get away, Rivett noticed that Diana carried an “underlying sadness”.
Although it’s been 28 years since the death of Princess Diana, her memory still lives on in the lives of her loved ones. Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, are reportedly in discussions with Netflix to produce a documentary honoring the late Princess of Wales. As reported by The Blast, the project could premiere in 2027 as part of the couple’s renewed deal with Netflix.
