Aryna Sabalenka Secures Spot in US Open Final

The US Open Tennis 2025 has been a thrilling spectacle, laden with shock results and dominant displays. Among these, the women’s semifinals have been particularly gripping, with defending champion Aryna Sabalenka triumphing over Jessica Pegula in a tense encounter. Despite enduring a challenging start, Sabalenka managed to bounce back with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory, thus securing her spot in the tournament’s final.

The first set was marked by a remarkable performance from Pegula, who played near-flawless tennis. However, Sabalenka’s determination and unwavering focus saw her make a comeback in the following sets. The turning point came in the second set when Pegula made nine unforced errors, allowing Sabalenka to regain her footing in the match.

On her first opportunity to win the match, Sabalenka faltered, hitting an easy overhead into the net. The pressure seemed to mount with a missed volley on her next chance. However, Sabalenka managed to maintain her composure in these crucial moments, eventually securing victory on her third match point.

Commenting on her performance, Sabalenka said, “I was super emotional. I was just like, ‘Oh, my gosh, no way it’s happening. Please, just close this match.'” This victory adds to Sabalenka’s impressive record against Pegula, improving to 8-2 over their careers.

The match saw a number of exciting moments, with aggressive returns from Pegula and more than twice as many winners (43-21) recorded by Sabalenka. Despite the intense competition, Sabalenka managed to save all four break points she faced in the last set. “It was really high-level. I don’t really know what else to say,” Pegula admitted after the match.

Sabalenka now prepares to face either Amanda Anisimova or Naomi Osaka in the final. If successful, she will be the first woman to claim consecutive championships at Flushing Meadows since Serena Williams’ three-peat from 2012 to 2014.

Since her Grand Slam title at the US Open last year, Sabalenka has seen a fantastic run in her career. She was the runner-up at the Australian Open in January, lost to Coco Gauff at the French Open in June, and fell in the Wimbledon semifinals to Anisimova in July. Her performance in the US Open 2025 further cements her place as one of the top players in women’s tennis today.

The US Open 2025 Women’s Semifinals have showcased some exceptional and thrilling tennis, with each game pushing the players to their limits. As Sabalenka steps onto the court for the final, her fans will be expecting a repeat of her last year’s performance. Given her current form and resilience, it’s safe to say that she will indeed “fight for every point like the last point of [her] life.”
