Unearthing Lovely Narratives: Valentine’s Day Love Stories at Albion College

Valentine’s Day, while globally celebrated, has a unique flavor at Albion College, a small liberal arts school in the heart of Michigan. Over the years, Albion has served as an incubator for many heartwarming love stories, with couples forming bonds that often last a lifetime. Today, we delve into some of these poignant narratives that root back to Albion.

Alondra Alcázar and Marlon Martin, both psychology majors from the class of ’20, crossed paths in Wesley Hall. Their story is a testament to love striking when least expected. Despite their rooms’ proximity and shared classes, they only truly connected in their senior year. The spark was ignited slowly, from shared walks post-classes to shared meals at the KC, eventually leading to a beautiful relationship that has now spanned five years and transcends geographical boundaries, with the couple now residing in Chicago.

Another Albion love tale features Megan Borgeling and Adam Stowe from the class of ’11. Their shared academic pursuit of German at Albion transformed into a personal bond. Their story initiated with a simple act of kindness when Adam shared his German textbook with Megan. This act extended into shared study sessions and evolved into a lifelong partnership that was cemented in marriage five years ago at Goodrich Chapel in Horton, Michigan.

Next, we turn to the love journey of Alaina Pellar-Klooster and Ryan Klooster, class of ’22, which led them to Albion. Having known each other since preschool, their orbits always seemed to intersect. They chose different paths for college, with Ryan enrolling at Albion and Alaina at Western Michigan University, but destiny reunited them at Albion. Overcoming the typical challenges of long-distance relationships and personal health issues, Alaina transferred to Albion. The couple tied the knot in 2022 and currently reside in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Diana Tello Brouwers and Javon Brouwers’ love story, however, is a whirlwind romance that began at Albion’s Transfer Student Orientation in 2019. Quickly bonding over shared interests like Russian cartoons and the movie Logan, the couple soon became inseparable. Their mutual affinity resulted in a marriage in 2023, with the couple now living in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Albion’s athletic scene has also played cupid for some couples. Samantha (Salhaney) Galla and Mychal Galla met during an intramural soccer match. This casual meeting evolved into a flourishing relationship that witnessed them dating in 2011, engaged by 2014, and married in 2015. They now live in Grand Rapids with their son, Oliver.

Autumn (Charnley) Hart and Daniel Hart from the class of ’09 also found love on the playing field, albeit during a pickup basketball game at the Dow Recreational and Wellness Center. Post this chance encounter, they further connected through Wesley Fellowship, chapel and other activities, forming a strong circle of mutual friends. Today, after 14 years of marriage, the couple lives with their two daughters, Elodie and Ailey, in Mount Clemens, Michigan.

These stories are but a small sample of the numerous love stories that have bloomed within the walls of Albion College. Each one serves as a testament to the magic of love and Albion’s role as a nurturing ground for these relationships. As we celebrate this Valentine’s Day, we honor these special bonds and look forward to unearthing more such wonderful stories in the future.
