‘This Is Us’ Star Milo Ventimiglia’s Struggle Through LA Fires

As life imitates art, ‘This Is Us’ star Milo Ventimiglia faces a heart-wrenching situation similar to his on-screen character. Ventimiglia, along with his wife Jarah Mariano, were forced to evacuate their Malibu home due to the catastrophic LA fires, leaving behind the charred remains of their house and many of their personal belongings, including the crib they had prepared for their unborn child.

In a shocking mirror to his on-screen life, the situation eerily parallels his character’s experience in ‘This Is Us’. Ventimiglia’s character, Jack Pearson, also tragically lost his home in a fire on the hit TV show. The irony of this real-life incident is not lost on Ventimiglia, who was forced to watch his home burn down, just days before his wife was due to give birth.

The wildfire, known as the Palisades fire, has consumed nearly 20,000 acres and put Ventimiglia’s ritzy neighborhood in its destructive path. Despite the devastation, Ventimiglia maintains a hopeful outlook, putting the safety and wellbeing of his wife, unborn child, and dog first.

The actor vividly described his experience, reliving the chilling moments of both the evacuation and the aftermath. “You start thinking about all the memories and the different parts of the house and whatnot and then you see your neighbors’ houses and everything around and your heart just breaks,” he shared during an interview with CBS Evening News.

As the flames engulfed their home, Ventimiglia and his wife watched the horrifying scene unfold through security cameras. The surreal reality of their situation quickly set in, and they turned off the live feed, accepting their loss. In their haste to evacuate, they grabbed “everything they could think of,” but sadly, many personal items, including the crib they had built for their incoming baby, were lost.

In the aftermath of the devastation, Ventimiglia and Mariano, who wed in 2023, are focusing on recovering and rebuilding. “We got good friends, and we got good people we’re working with, and we’ll make do. Wife and baby and dog, most important,” Ventimiglia said.

The LA fires have not only impacted Ventimiglia’s family but have also led to widespread devastation across Southern California. The wildfire has affected numerous other celebrities, including Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Eugene Levy, James Woods, and others. Ventimiglia’s former co-star, Mandy Moore, and her husband were among the lucky ones who found a substantial part of their home undamaged, while Chrissy Teigen and John Legend sought refuge in a hotel with their four children, four dogs, and pet bearded dragon.

As of Thursday, five wildfires were sweeping across Southern California, including the Palisades Fire, with firefighters managing to contain only six percent of the blaze. These wildfires have burnt nearly 36,000 acres since they started on Tuesday. Amid the chaos, authorities have managed to take one person into custody in connection with the Kenneth Fire, which erupted in Los Angeles’ West Hills on Thursday afternoon.
