The Weeknd’s New Album: ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’

Canadian singer-songwriter The Weeknd has made his much-anticipated return to the music scene with his latest album “Hurry Up Tomorrow”. On January 30, 2025, the artist released the third installment of his “After Hours” trilogy, featuring collaborations with several prominent artists including Lana Del Rey, Travis Scott, Future, Florence + the Machine, Giorgio Moroder, Playboi Carti, Anitta and others.

The album’s roll out did not initially include detailed credits on streaming services. However, a representative for The Weeknd confirmed the star-studded lineup involved in the album, which comprises 22 tracks and spans almost 90 minutes. A complete review of the album is set to appear in Variety in the coming days.

Intriguingly, “Hurry Up Tomorrow” is more than just an album. A film of the same name, co-written and directed by Trey Edward Schults for Lionsgate, will follow the album’s release in May. The film stars The Weeknd, Jenna Ortega, and Barry Keoghan, and will premiere exclusively in theaters on May 16, 2025.

During an interview for The Weeknd’s cover story in Variety, the artist hinted that he may retire his stage name and persona after this album. This narrative is echoed in the closing moments of “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” which transitions seamlessly into “High for This,” the opening track from his debut mixtape, “House of Balloons.” This move appears to bring The Weeknd’s discography full circle.

The album was initially scheduled for release the previous week, but was postponed due to the tragic Los Angeles wildfires. In response to this disaster, The Weeknd has pledged to donate the proceeds from the album track “Take Me Back To LA” to the LA Regional Food Bank, which provides emergency food assistance to those affected by the LA wildfires. He also cancelled his planned album release concert at Pasadena’s Rose Bowl, instead choosing to donate 1 million dollars to the LAFD Foundation, GoFundMe’s Wildfire Relief Fund, and LA Regional Food Bank.

The singer made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on the night of the album’s release, where he performed the new song “Open Hearts.” Many of the album’s tracks were previewed at The Weeknd’s stadium concert at Estádio Morumbi in São Paulo last October, featuring surprise performances from Playboi Carti and Anitta.

The “Hurry Up Tomorrow” tracklist includes standout songs such as “Wake Me Up (ft. Justice)”, “Cry For Me”, “São Paulo (ft. Anitta)”, “Reflections Laughing (ft. Florence + The Machine & Travis Scott)”, “Enjoy The Show (ft. Future)”, “Timeless (ft. Playboi Carti)”, “Big Sleep (ft. Giorgio Moroder)”, “The Abyss (ft. Lana Del Rey)”, and the title track “Hurry Up Tomorrow”.
